Please join the Institute for African Studies in celebrating the public launch of a web resource for students, teachers, and scholars that provides background information and a broad range of primary documents for teaching about the international response to the Nigeria-Biafra war of 1967-70.

We will have a brief panel presentation on the international significance of the war and methods for addressing it in teaching and scholarship. The program will include:

  • Jennifer Cooke, Director, GWU Institute for African Studies
  • Nemata Blyden, Professor of History, GWU, African history specialist, author of African Americans and Africa.
  • Dr. Ernest Ogbozor, Professorial Lecturer, ESIA, specialist in Conflict resolution and humanitarian action.
  • Dr. David Throup, Lecturer, GWU Department of Political Science, specialist in governance and civil conflict in Africa.
  • Melani McAlister, Professor of American Studies and International Affairs, GWU.
