On October 28-29, the Darfur Women’s Action Group, in co-sponsorship with IAfS, hosted its Annual Symposium on Women & Genocide in the 21st Century: The Case of Darfur at the Elliott School. On Saturday, October 28, IAfS Acting Director Ambassador Mulamula gave opening remarks on behalf of the Institute, and welcomed a full house of guests and eager participants.
The first day of the symposium included panel discussions with experts on genocide, gender, and the effects of violence against women in conflict; as well as remarks and analyses from keynote speakers; and harrowing testimonies from witnesses and survivors, including women from Darfur and other areas of conflict.
The second day was dedicated to breakout sessions for students, activists, and Sudanese diaspora members, with a focus on advocacy training, networking, strategy development, and a roundtable discussion with Sudanese diaspora from all parts of Sudan to develop a united Sudanese strategy for change in Sudan.
