On March 9, 2020, The Institute for African Studies held a panel discussion to celebrate the public launch of a web resource for students, teachers, and scholars that provides background information and a broad range of primary documents for teaching about the international response to the Nigeria-Biafra war of 1967-70.

 
The panel discussion, which focused on the international significance of the war and methods for addressing it in teaching and scholarship, included IAfS Director Jennifer Cooke, GWU History Professor Nemata Blyden, ESIA Professorial Lecturer, Ernest Ogbozor, GWU Department of Political Science Lecturer and specialist in governance and civil conflict in Africa, Dr. David Throup. The discussion was moderated by Melanie McAlister, professor of American Studies and International Affairs at GWU.
